Question: Where can I find a LOOXIS shop?
Please click here and you will find the list of all LOOXIS shop worldwide.

Question: „Are the transparent blocks made out of plastic or glass?“
The 3D Facescans are lasered into blocks of hiqh quality optical glass. It is the same quality like the glass for the lenses, as they are used in large telescopes, such as those from the NASA.

Question: How does the laser process work?
The laser is focussed into the glass, in the focal point the energy is so high that the structure is change in a small point. The laser beam is computer controlled, an image made of thousand small points is the outcome. This laser process is the so called "Vitrography".

Question: How does the laser know whereabouts in the glass it has to laser?
The laser is focussed. Similar to a magnifying glass: You can bundle the sunrays to set fire to a piece of paper for example.

Question: „Who invented this, to display a human face in 3D in a glass block by means of laser?
LOOXIS is the inventor of the 3D Portrait in glass. On the industrial trade fair in Hannover (Germany) in April 1999, we have lasered for the first time worldwide a 3D Face into a glass block of a high quality glass cube.

Question: Is it possible to make a 3D portrait from a photo?
Yes, it possible to laser a 3D image of a standard photo. Please find further information here.

Question: „Can you compare the 3D objects in glass with a hologram?“
The only similarity of the 3D subsurface engraving with a hologram is the threedimensional representation of objects. The effect, that a face seems to watch the viewer while you move the hologramm, can be observed also with a 3D facescan in glass: simply look at the glass block from the backside and slightly move the glass block.

Question: Can you scan my motorcyle for example?
The Vitroscan 3D-v2 is concipated for three-dimensional  scanning of faces, not objects. But we have a big data bank with three-dimensional motives. It would also be possible for a 3D designer to compile a 3D-data on his computer. On request we would gladly send you an offer.

Question: Will the image vanish inside the glass or will it change colour?
The image stays the same in its brilliance and appearance. It will not turn yellow or change its look. The picture stays in the glass for eternity. Except, if you should heat it over 500°.

Question: How many points has a 3D Facescan normally?
A standard size Facescan (R90) has approx. 230,000 points.

Question: How long does the process take?
The 3D Facescan doens't take longer than a second. The laser process of the §D Facescan takes about 4 minutes.

Question: „Is the scanning process dangerous for my health?“
Of course not! The scanner functions with normal light. The light is very bright, similar to a flash of a photo camera - this maybe lets you twinkle your eyes, but this is definitely not dangerous.

Question: „For how long do you save the 3D files?“
We take your privacy and data protection very seriously. Usually the 3D scan files remain on the computer until they are archived regularly on CD ROM for possible re-orders at a later time. If you do not want us to save the files, let us know. In this case the files will be deleted immediately.

Question: „Can I have the 3D file of my face for my personal use?“
Yes! We are happy to pass on to you the 3D Facescan in our proprietary 3DI file format. You can view any 3DI files with the free LOOXISView software components. You can find the software and all details by clicking here. Editing the 3DI files is not possible and is not intended. We thank you for your understanding.

Question: „Which file formats do you process in order to laser any 3D motive into glass?“
Generally we are using the OBJ file format (Alias Wavefront OBJ), with 3 points (vertices) per polygon and a squared texture in the BMP, PNG or JPG file format. Other file formats are useable as well, but those have to be converted by us first. You can find further information by clicking here.

Question: „Can you laser our company logo in 3D into the glass?“
Ja, simple logos und graphics, which are not made of complex color gradients and which are not a two dimensional illustration of a 3D object, can be simply extruded and lasered into glass in three dimensions. You can find further information by clicking here.
