3D Motives

If you would you like to have complex 3D motives lasered into high quality optical glass, then we need your motive or logo in an appropriate 3d file format.

LOOXIS categorically uses 3D files in the OBJ file format

Basically every vector based 3D file format can be used. Vector based file formats will be converted into the OBJ file format. You can see a Ford Focus car as a 3D OBJ file. The stickers on the car are realised through texture.

For best results, you should deliver a 3D vector file with texture, such as OBJ. But also 3DS or VRML are file formats that can be prepared by you or your designer including textures. These can also be converted by us into the OBJ file format.

Tiny structure changes in the glass make the 3D motive appear

Please note that any image is displayed with tiny structure changes (very small white dots) inside the glass. This makes it necessary that color is converted to grey scale, the resulting lighter and darker areas will be displayed through higher or lower point density. Black can only be displayed if it is displayed slightly lighter, which is a dark grey scale. On the left side you can see the 3D motive "Ford Focus" lasered into a block of high quality optical glass.
 

Bottom line: Best results are achieved with files in the OBJ file format including texture:

• Alias Wavefront OBJ file format
  
• 3 Vertices (points) per polygon
•  Texture in JPG, PNGO or BMP file format, squared

File formats such as  DXF, STL or ASC can also be used and converted, these file formats though, because of their file structure categorically do not contain texture. Lasering those files into glass is possible, however the result will be displayed as if it was modeled from clay. On the picture you see a buddha bust, lasered threedimensionally into glass. The file of the buddha does not have any textures, as the original bust only consists of clay. Light and shadow, applied when converting the file, let the bust appear more realistic.

We can have your preferred 3D motive created

If you do not have a possibility yourself to make available your preferred 3D motive, we can have it modelled for you. Please consider an amount from 100 Euro or Dollars for the creation of your file, depending on the complexity. 3D Graphic Artists will create on the computer your preferred motive in 3D.

What we need to create a 3D motive for you

To model a 3D motive for you, we need to know what the final result must look like. The better the submissal, the better the final result. If the respective object is handy and easy to handle, you can give it to us, a sketch will also be helpful. The most effective way however is to have some photographs from different perspectives and views of the respective object from you. This way, the 3D Designer can get a good impression of the object. Please point out details that are important to you. On the example on the left side, you can see some photos of a security key as well as the 3d motive of the same key.

Depending on the complexity  of the model please allow one to three weeks for the creation of a 3D model.

Your preferred 3D model possibly already exists

Possibly your preferred motive has already been created by a 3D Graphic Designer, and is offered for sale in commercial 3D Databases such as  www.turbosquid.com orr www.3d02.com for example. Let us know if you need any help.
